Frank Sutton founded Sutton Plumbing and Heating in May of 1954.
He spent nineteen years as a salesman for Crane Canada and would later spend three more years working for a plumbing wholesaler before venturing out on his own. Sutton Plumbing and Heating was originally located at the corner of Dufferin and Cote St. Luc Road in Hampstead, Quebec. The Sutton team then relocated to Old Orchard and de Maisonneuve before relocating for a third time to 2174 Clifton in NDG, Montreal, Quebec and 6045 De Maisonneuve, Montreal, Quebec. Today, Sutton is located at 7420 St Jacques West – a state of the art warehouse & office space.
Sutton was originally founded with one idea in mind: Help contractors and industrial accounts source out product they normally wouldn’t be able to find. Frank Sutton quickly realized the growing need for a service-oriented wholesaler and found his niche. The public demand for excellent and timely service helped the company grow into one of the most successful wholesalers in the Montreal area. Brian Sutton, the son of Frank Sutton, joined the family business in 1955 and eventually took over operations in 1960. Brian Sutton, alongside two Quebec businessmen, formed a buying group in 1979 named Octo. Octo provided smaller wholesalers, like Sutton, with increased buying power, thus levelling the playing field in bids and negotiations. With the death of Frank Sutton in 1992, Brian Sutton officially took over for his father that year. Continuing the family legacy, Greg Boyd now manages the business alongside his uncle Brian Sutton and together, build on Frank Suttons founding philosophy of providing simple, personalized services and solutions.
